Carretera Austral
With a couple from Catalonia and two Belgium girls I hitchhiked parts of the Carretera Austral and most of the gravel/ dirt road we drove with a rental car. While highly advised to use a four-wheel drive we went with the cheap and sporty version, making it tricky to pass some potholes and puddles. Going up towards the last camping before hiking to Michinmahuida glacier, the car slided back down and we had to walk the rest. We got awarded with a nice and lonely hike with water crossing and getting a fantastic and close view of the glacier though! Controlled demolitions and land slides due to heavy rain delayed us a couple of times but driving through places with names like Coyhaique, Puyuhuapi and El Amarillo was a great adventure!
